Back with White Sox Garcia returned to the White Sox on a three-year deal Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Impact Garcia has been a serviceable utility man for the White Sox for the past several seasons and is now set up to remain in that role through the end of 2024. He's miscast in an everyday role, which he's had to fill in the past, but his .273/.317/.388 line over the last five seasons is completely adequate for a player who can handle both shortstop and center field.

Impact Garcia capped the White Sox's comeback from a 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the third inning when he stepped to the plate with two outs and two runners on. He hammered a 3-1 pitch from Yimi Garcia to deep center for a 436-foot home run, giving Chicago its first lead of the night. Houston would tie the game in the top of the fourth, but Garcia helped put the game out of reach in Chicago's three-run eighth inning, when he drove home Andrew Vaughn before coming around to score on Tim Anderson's base hit. The 30-year-old has started in each of the first three games of the ALDS and doesn't look in danger of losing an everyday role in the outfield to Gavin Sheets, Billy Hamilton or Adam Engel.

Impact The White Sox continue to deploy a number of bodies in right field in preparation for the playoffs. Garcia, Adam Engel and Andrew Vaughn have started there this week, and manager Tony La Russa will make a determination about those three in addition to Brian Goodwin (back), Billy Hamilton and Gavin Sheets when constructing the postseason roster. Garcia has hit safely in 21 of the last 25 games, slashing .359/.396/.533.

Triples in win Garcia started in right field and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a triple in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Reds.

Impact Garcia was given the nod in right field over Andrew Vaughn, who entered Tuesday batting .089 (6-for-67) over the last 18 games. White Sox manager Tony La Russa talked about cycling players in and out of the lineup over the final week of the season in preparation for the postseason with Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. "So we'll see what the smart strategy will be as far as the hitters," La Russa said. "Clearly if the guy's bat is getting a little heavy, he should get less [at-bats]. If he feels great, the more at-bats, the better." Pops fourth homer Garcia went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.

Impact He took Connor Seabold deep in the second inning to open the scoring and give the Boston rookie a rude welcome to the majors. Garcia isn't much of a power hitter -- Saturday's blast was his first since July 7 and only his fourth of the season -- but he's been hot at the plate for a while now, slashing .365/.407/.519 through 14 games since returning from a concussion in late August.
