Blows save, earns up Barnes (4-2) gave up a run and struck out two batters in one inning Friday, earning a win after blowing the save against Oakland.

Impact Barnes coughed up a leadoff, game-tying homer to Elvis Andrus in the ninth inning. It was just the second long ball he's given up in his last 17 appearances. He had converted his previous four save chances and hadn't been charged with an earned run since June 15. His ERA bumped up to 2.75 with a 61:9 K:BB through 36 innings this season. Barnes has 18 saves in 22 opportunities.

Impact Barnes came on to start the ninth inning of a scoreless tie and quickly retired Austin Meadows and Yandy Diaz. Things unraveled after then when Barnes walked Manuel Margot, who promptly stole second and advanced to third on Christian Vazquez's errant throw. Margot later came in to score when Barnes bounced a wild pitch in front of Vazquez. Barnes, who has allowed a run in three of his last four outings, still owns a 2.90 ERA and 0.84 WHIP on the season while converting 15 of 18 save chances.

Impact Barnes bounced back after blowing an opportunity in his previous outing to record his 15th save of the season. He did struggle a bit however, as he allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base and ultimately come around to score. Barnes has now allowed one earned run in four of his last seven appearances, which has resulted in two blown saves. Even so, it appears he is still locked into the closer role. Barnes has earned some leeway by maintaining a 3.07 ERA with a stellar 52:7 K:BB across 29.1 innings on the campaign.

Impact Pitching for the third consecutive day, Barnes entered for the ninth to protect a 4-3 lead and coughed up a Gleyber Torres RBI double to knot the score and send the game to extras. Boston was able to plate two runs in the 10th to award Barnes the win despite the blown save. It's safe to say Barnes won't pitch for a make-up game at home against Miami tomorrow but he should be good to go for a three-game set against Houston starting Tuesday.
