Impact Minor stumbled in his first start with the Athletics on Sept. 8, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks over 3.1 innings en route to taking a no-decision against the Astros. Though the Athletics haven't committed to Minor sticking in the rotation following his Aug. 31 acquisition from Texas, the lefty will at least pick up one more start with the doubleheader requiring Oakland to at least temporarily roll out a six-man rotation. The Athletics will have another doubleheader set for Sept. 26 at Seattle, with the decision on who serves as the team's sixth starter that week likely coming down to Minor and prospect Daulton Jefferies, who struggled in his MLB debut Saturday in Texas.

The uneven performance was unfortunately par for the 2020 course for Minor, who now sports a career-high 2.2 HR/9 across 36.1 innings.

Bullpen role not out of question Athletics general manager David Forst said Monday that the newly-acquired Minor could pitch out of the bullpen at some point this season, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Forst said that Minor will get some starts with Oakland having multiple doubleheaders scheduled in the weeks ahead, but noted that the veteran left-hander could later serve as a relief arm if needed. Dealt to Oakland The Athletics acquired Minor from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for two players to be named later, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact After Cleveland shipped Mike Clevinger to San Diego earlier in the day, Minor may have become the next-best starting pitcher aside from Dylan Bundy left available on the open market leading up to the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline. Minor emerged as a frontline member of the Texas rotation after racking up 200 strikeouts in 2019, but the drop in velocity he's experienced this season has prevented him from taking full advantage of Texas' more pitcher-friendly ballpark in 2020. Even though his season ERA and WHIP sit at a disappointing 5.60 and 1.36, respectively, Minor has still struck out nearly a batter an inning while generating groundballs at a 39.3 percent clip, so he at least has some potential to turn things around as he moves on to Oakland. Prior to the trade, Minor had been lined up to start Thursday, so he could make his Athletics debut in the team's series finale in Seattle that day.
