Ryan Jeffers - Resting up Monday Jeffers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.

Impact The Twins continue to employ a near-even split of the catching duties between Jeffers and Christian Vazquez. After Jeffers caught all nine innings of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays, Vazquez will get a turn behind the plate in Monday's series opener.

Louie Varland - Could start Wednesday for big club Varland may be a candidate for a promotion from Triple-A St. Paul to fill the opening in the Twins rotation Wednesday at Tampa Bay, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Twins already have a five-man rotation in place, but manager Rocco Baldelli is presumably keen on building in an extra day of rest for the team's starters while Minnesota is in the midst of a stretch of 13 games in 13 days. While Varland should eventually settle into a bullpen role for Minnesota in September, the Twins' decision not to call him up Sunday when the active roster expanded to 28 men suggests he's being ticketed for a start Wednesday. Varland owns a 1.93 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 39:13 K:BB in 32.2 innings over his last six outings for St. Paul but has largely struggled during his time in the big leagues with a 4.91 ERA across 124.2 career innings.

Bailey Ober - Produces quality start Sunday Ober allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out eight over six innings in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

Impact Ober gave up a solo home run to Ernie Clement on the fifth pitch he threw of the day but otherwise dominated the Blue Jays. It was a huge bounce back performance after he allowed a season-worst nine runs in his previous start. That's now 12 quality starts in his last 13 outings for Ober and his strikeout numbers were up after only managing 10 strikeouts over his last 14 innings coming into Sunday. The 29-year-old owns a 3.95 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 155:39 K:BB in 148 innings and lines up to make his next start on the road against the Royals over the weekend.

Jhoan Duran - Secures save Sunday Duran picked up the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays, striking out a batter while picking up three outs in the ninth inning.

Impact Duran reeled off his second save of the weekend. He began his outing with a strike out and navigated around a hit batter to pick up his 20th save of the season, his second consecutive campaign with at least 20 saves. Duran has now had to work around a batter on the bases in seven straight appearances but has only allowed an earned run one of those times. For the year, the 26-year-old has a 3.60 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB in 45 innings.

Royce Lewis - Provides clutch three-run homer Lewis went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Impact Lewis had the Twins only extra-base hit of the afternoon, as he took Chad Green deep in the eighth to put the Twins up 4-3 and it was enough to give them the win. The home run was Lewis' first since Aug. 12 and it was his first game reaching base multiple times since then as well. Lewis has been slumping a bit, batting just .195 over his last 10 starts but his homer set a new career high with 16 and he's now slashing .259/.322/.557 with 16 homers, 43 RBI, 34 runs and a 21:52 BB:K in 227 plate appearances.

Impact The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for right-hander Diego Castillo, whose contract was selected from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays. Paddack was initially placed on the IL on July 20 with a right forearm strain and wasn't counting on returning until late September in a best-case scenario, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his recovery timeline. Per MLB.com, Paddack resumed playing catch from 60 feet last week, but he still has several milestones to hit in the rehab process before his return to the active roster can be considered imminent.

Caleb Boushley - Pushed off 40-man roster The Twins designated Boushley for assignment Sunday.

Impact Boushley has now been cast off the Twins' 40-man roster on two occasions, this time to make room on the active roster for utility man Michael Helman, whose contract was selected from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. The Twins are hopeful that Boushley will go unclaimed off waivers and remain in the organization as pitching depth at St. Paul. Over 22 starts at Triple-A this season, Boushley has turned in a 4.97 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 94:20 K:BB across 116 innings.

Manuel Margot - Shelved with groin strain The Twins placed Margot on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right groin strain.

Impact Margot underwent an MRI after suffering the groin injury in Saturday's 15-0 loss to the Blue Jays, but since the results of those tests haven't been made public, an exact timeline for the outfielder's return isn't known. The 29-year-old has cobbled together a mediocre .250/.302/.350 slash line with four home runs and five steals over 306 plate appearances while mostly serving as a short-side platoon player this season, so his upcoming absence shouldn't have many ramifications in fantasy baseball.

Diego Castillo - Moves up to majors The Twins selected Castillo's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.

Impact Castillo had previously given up just two earned runs over seven innings over five appearances out of the Minnesota bullpen earlier this season, but the shiny 2.57 ERA came with an ugly 1.71 WHIP and 3:7 K:BB. He was bumped off the Twins' 40-man roster in June before he elected free agency, only to re-sign with the organization on a minor-league deal in early July. Castillo has continued to show spotty control at St. Paul this season (21 walks in 32.1 innings), so the Twins are unlikely to turn to him for high-leverage work during his latest stint in the big leagues.
