Niko Goodrum has agreed to a $2.1 million, one-year contract with the Houston Astros

Lands in Houston Goodrum signed a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Astros on Saturday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Impact Goodrum's career .230/.303/.396 slash line suggests he was miscast as a starter during his time with the Tigers, but his ability to play a decent shortstop as well as cover every other position on the diamond makes him a fine fit in a bench role. If he finds his way to unexpected playing time, he'll get a boost from being surrounded by a strong lineup and would offer fantasy teams a bit of speed, but he's unlikely to be of much help at the plate.

Parts ways with Detroit Goodrum was outrighted off the Tigers' 40-man roster and elected free agency Friday after clearing waivers.

Impact Goodrum posted a .745 OPS across 2018 and 2019 for the Tigers, but he had a .632 OPS over the past two seasons, leading the team to remove him from the 40-man roster. The versatile 29-year-old is now on the open market but may need to settle for a minor-league deal during the offseason.

He recorded three of those in the last month alone, but his overall results haven't been very encouraging -- he only hit .194 across 23 games during September while striking out in 23.8 percent of his at-bats.
