Chris Paddack - Lined up to start MondayManager Jayce Tingler said Paddack (oblique) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday to start the Padres' series opener in Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-...
ImpactPaddack received the green light to make his first start since July 27 after his strained left oblique checked out fine following his bullpen session Saturday. Because Paddack didn't head out on a rehab assignment during his time on the IL, he'll likely be eased back into the San Diego rotation Monday with a more limited pitch count than usual.

Chris Rodríguez - Unlikely to return as starterRodriguez (lat) has yet to resume throwing and isn't expected to have enough time to ramp up as a starter if he returns, per MLB.com.
ImpactRodriguez was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A on Aug. 14 and is considered week-to-week. The right-hander worked primarily as a reliever during his time with the Angels this season but did log two starts in 15 appearances. Manager Joe Maddon said in April that Rodriguez has what it takes to become "a front-line starter," but the rookie appears unlikely to work in that capacity again this season, if he is able to return at all.

Jake Arrieta - Completes bullpen sessionArrieta (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Saturday and could return to the Padres in early September, per MLB.com.
ImpactThe right-hander exited with a mild hamstring strain during his first start with San Diego on Aug. 18, but it appears that the injury won't keep him out of action for an extended period. However, Chris Paddack (oblique) is nearing a return to the rotation and the Padres have two off days both this week and next, so it's not certain that Arrieta will be needed as a starter when he's able to rejoin the club.

Alex Cobb - Hopeful for returnCobb (wrist) threw a light bullpen session Wednesday, per MLB.com.
ImpactInitial tests revealed no structural damage to Cobb's right (pitching) wrist, but his recovery has been much slower than expected. The veteran hurler's last game action took place July 23, so he'll likely need considerable time to ramp back into shape before a potential return. Cobb has indicated that he is hopeful he can make it back before the end of the campaign.

Mike Trout - Runs bases 'aggresively'Trout (calf) was able to aggressively run the bases at Angel Stadium on Friday, per MLB.com.
ImpactThis is a significant step in the superstar's path to a return this season, as Trout hadn't aggressively tested his injured right calf since experiencing discomfort July 22. He's expected to continue his running program and could begin a rehab assignment whenever he's completely pain-free. According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, Trout will play center field if he is able to rejoin the big club this season despite some discussion of him shifting to a corner-outfield spot.

Andrew Wantz - Earns first big-league winWantz (1-0) was credited with the win Saturday versus the Padres, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings and allowing one walk while striking out three.
ImpactAngels starter Jose Suarez lasted only 3.2 frames, allowing Wantz to pick up the victory by holding San Diego scoreless during his brief appearance. The right-hander struck out the final three batters he faced after walking Jake Cronenworth to lead off the fifth inning. Wantz has posted a superb 21:4 K:BB across 11.2 frames this season, though he has struggled with the long ball (2.3 HR/9).
