Impact Miller hadn't allowed a run over 5.2 innings in his first three appearances since his Sept. 22 call-up, but that came crashing down Monday. Sean Hjelle - Fans eight in bulk-relief role Hjelle did not factor in the decision against San Diego on Monday, pitching five scoreless innings during which he allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.
Impact John Brebbia started for San Francisco but pitched only one inning. Hjelle ended up logging a starter's workload, throwing 76 pitches over five frames and holding the Padres without a run. It was the second time this season that the right-hander has tossed five innings in relief, and his eight strikeouts Monday were a season high. Hjelle has pitched well over his past three appearances, giving up just three earned runs across 13 innings, but a pair of blowups prior to that means he'll likely finish his rookie campaign with an unappealing 5.76 ERA and 1.64 WHIP.

He'll be unavailable for the Giants' final three regular-season games, and it seems likely that he'll require several weeks of rest during the offseason. The 36-year-old slashed .244/.315/.451 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs over 89 games in 2022.

Impact The 31-year-old right-hander has struggled to stick at the big-league level in recent years while bouncing around between multiple organizations, but he's made a strong early impression since joining the Giants following his Sept. 22 call-up from Triple-A Sacramento.
