J.P. Crawford - Out after fouling ball off footCrawford is out of the lineup Friday after fouling a ball off his foot, SShannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ImpactCrawford was scheduled to hit at the top of the otrder and play shortstop, but the infielder was scratched as a precaution. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day, but at this point there's little reason to think he won't be ready to go for the regular season.

J.P. Crawford - Scratched from starting lineupCrawford has been scratched from Friday's Cactus League game against the Athletics for undisclosed reasons, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ImpactCrawford has been dealing with a shoulder issue in the past few days, but there's no word as to why the infielder is out of the lineup. Mason McCoy will start in his place. There should be an update on why Crawford is out of action before the conclusion of Friday's game.

Mike Ford - Shifted to minor-league campThe Mariners reassigned Ford to minor-league camp Friday.
ImpactFord put together a decent spring training, going 5-for-25 at the plate with six RBI. He will likely return to Triple-A for 2023, where he slashed .248/.380/.363 over 137 plate appearances last season with four different organizations.
MARCH 24, 2023ROTOWIRE
Chris Flexen - Will open season in bullpenFlexen will not open the season in Seattle's starting rotation, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ImpactThe Mariners will have Luis Castillo on the mound for Opening Day, and he'll be followed in order by Robbie Ray, Logan Gilbert, Marco Gonzales and George Kirby. That means Flexen will be a multi-inning relief option to begin the season despite a strong 2.65 ERA in 17 innings so far in the Cactus League. If anything was to happen to the names above Flexen would be the obvious replacement.

Tommy La Stella - Getting infield work FridayLa Stella (shoulder) will partake in pregame work at third base before Friday's Cactus League game, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ImpactLa Stella was able to play first base Thursday against the Reds, and he's able to get some work at third in for the first time since developing some shoulder irritation. The veteran infielder is expected to be a utility player for Seattle in 2023, and he could get reps at designated hitter if his return to full defensive duties is delayed.
MARCH 24, 2023ROTOWIRE
Luis Cessa - Beginning as fifth starterCessa will begin the season as the Reds' fifth starter, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactCessa is still trying to ramp up as a starter, so it makes sense that he'll take the Reds last spot in the rotation for now, behind Connor Overton. Cessa posted a 4.57 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 80.2 innings as a swingman for Cincy in 2022.
MARCH 24, 2023ROTOWIRE
Connor Overton - Opens as fourth starterOverton will begin the season as the Reds' fourth starter, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactOverton started well for the Reds last season before a back injury shut him down for multiple months, but his 2.73 ERA in 33 innings was fueled by a .204 BABIP and supported by a mere 11.3 percent strikeout rate. Regression and opposing hitters could both hit him very hard in 2023.
