Matt Carpenter - Traveling, taking infield practiceCarpenter (oblique) is currently traveling with the Cardinals and took infield practice in Arizona over the weekend, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ImpactSidelined since early April with a right oblique strain, Carpenter seems to be making progress in his recovery, though it's unclear where he stands in his hitting progression. With that, a return timetable is still up in the air for the 14-year veteran. Carpenter appeared in three games -- including a couple starts at DH -- for the Cardinals early on this season, going 3-for-10 with three singles and a run scored.

Keynan Middleton - Resumes throwingMiddleton (forearm) started playing catch Sunday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ImpactMiddleton was diagnosed with a right forearm strain in mid-March and received a PRP injection earlier this month after he had to be pulled off his initial recovery program. The team will likely take a conservative approach with Middleton's throwing from here given the nature of the injury and the fact that he's already suffered one setback this spring. There is no set timetable for his return.

Paul Sewald - Set for another bullpen sessionSewald (oblique) will throw a second bullpen session Tuesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
ImpactSewald threw 18 pitches in his bullpen session Saturday, which was his first since being placed on the 15-day IL with a Grade 2 left oblique strain. Tuesday's session should give the Diamondbacks a clearer picture on Sewald's progress and whether the right-hander is ready for a rehab assignment.

Dylan Carlson - Takes part in tee workCarlson (shoulder) was expected to hit off a tee Monday and will progress to soft toss this week, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe outfielder is in the very early stages of his ramp-up after being shut down for over two weeks following a March 29 cortisone injection in his left shoulder. He will need to advance to batting practice and ultimately face high velocity before the team can start plotting out the when and where of a minor-league rehab assignment.
APRIL 15ROTOWIRE
Tommy Edman - Begins taking dry swingsEdman (wrist) was scheduled to begin taking dry swings Monday and is expected to advance to tee work Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ImpactHis recovery from offseason surgery on his right wrist has put Edman on the shelf to begin the 2024 campaign, but he recently received clearance to begin ramping up his activity. While he's still in the early stages, Edman will at least start taking some cuts and making contact with baseballs beginning Tuesday. The 28-year-old should play close to every day for St. Louis once healthy after exceeding 500 plate appearances each of the last three years.
