Jonathan Lucroy headed to the Rangers in deadline-beating deal
One of the most coveted prizes on the trading block is headed to Texas.
The Rangers acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Milwaukee Brewers, just minutes before Monday's non-waiver trade deadline, according to FOX Sports MLB insider Ken Rosenthal and multiple other reports. Lucroy himself later confirmed the news on Twitter.
Lucroy is hitting .299 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI for the Brewers this season. He earned his second All-Star nod in three years.
Earlier Monday, Lucroy — who has a no-trade clause in his contract — vetoed a trade to the Cleveland Indians, leadings in the AL Central.
Instead, he is going to another first-place team. The Rangers are 62-44, best in the AL and six games clear of the Houston Astros in the AL West.
Pitcher Jeremy Jeffress is also headed to the Rangers in the deal. Texas is sending two of its top three prospects — outfielder Lewis Brinson and pitcher Luis Ortiz — to the Brewers, as well as a player to be named later.
Now, moving on to the @Rangers let's take this bad boy to the 'ship! Really excited and can't wait to get after it!
