24 years ago today, Jose Canseco had a ball bounce off his head for a HR

Despite the 462 homers he swatted during his 17 seasons in the majors, the numerous accusations of steroid use he hurled in “Juiced” (and elsewhere), and the countless head-scratching thoughts he's tweeted in recent years, Jose Canseco might be best known for a blooper.

And it was on this date in 1993 that a baseball bounced off Canseco’s head and over the right-field wall at the old Cleveland Stadium. For those who can’t get enough of that moment and for those who might never have seen it, here it is in all of its glory:



The Indians’ Carlos Martinez benefited from the gaffe, but really, it’s baseball fans who benefited most. To his credit, Canseco laughed when it happened and still can smile about it. He’s even commemorated the anniversary of his heads-up play in recent years:
