Wilmer Flores changed his walk-up song to the 'Friends' theme and the crowd loved it
New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores debuted some new walk-up music this week and it's a familiar tune for fans of the long-running sitcom Friends. The 25-year-old Flores selected the show's theme -- "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts -- to play while he approaches his at-bats, and it's a decision that has been pretty well-received by hometown fans.
Flores is admittedly addicted to the show and credits it with helping him learn the English language after moving stateside from his native Venezuela.
"I just can’t stop watching it,” Flores said after the game, according to ESPN. “I don’t know -- on the road, when I’m home, every day -- I don’t want to watch anything else. I don’t know why. There’s something about that show."
The infielder said he loved the way the crowd reacted to the song choice and that he plans on keeping it for the time being. Between him and Yoenis Cespedes, who recently changed his walk-up song to The Lion King's "Circle of Life," the Mets are bringing plenty of '90s nostalgia to Citi Field.
And while Flores clearly loves himself some Friends, it's just too bad the show doesn't exactly love him back.
