Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira will call it a career after this season
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will announce Friday that he will retire at the end of this season.

Teixeira, 36, is in the final year of an eight-year, $180 million deal.
He has battled injuries the past several years and is hitting just .198/.287/.340 with 10 homers and 27 RBI this season. During his 14-season major-league career, he has 404 homers, 1,281 RBI and a .269/.361./511 slash line. He has nine seasons with at least 30 homers and eight with at least 100 RBI.

The switch-hitting Teixeira is a three-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove winner.
Teixeira won a World Series in 2009 – his first year with the Yankees after previously playing for the Rangers, Braves and Angels. He was the fifth overall pick by Texas in the 2001 draft.
This is yet another example of how different the Yankees’ roster will look next season as they retool. Already gone are relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, DH/outfielder Carlos Beltran and right-hander Ivan Nova – all traded prior to the nonwaiver deadline. And there are rumors that Alex Rodriguez could be the next to go, though GM Brian Cashman disputes those reports.
