Remorseful Yasiel Puig says he's ready to be a better teammate

Yasiel Puig's minor-league stint seems to have humbled the young Dodgers outfielder, but will it be enough for the big league club to give him a second chance?

The 25-year-old Puig, who was demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma on Aug. 2, says he doesn't know what the future holds but that the experience has taught him a lot.

Puig said that looking back, he should have handled himself differently over the last few years in L.A.

The Dodgers placed Puig on waivers over the weekend, opening the door for teams to claim him and possibly work out a trade. But if Puig remains with the Dodgers, he's hopeful that he has done enough to show management that he deserves another shot with the big league club.

If the Dodgers want Puig to be a part of their postseason plans, they'll have to make that decision within the next 24 hours, as players must be on the 25-man roster by Aug. 31st to be eligible to play in the postseason. The Dodgers enter Tuesday on top of the NL West, 1.5 games ahead of the second-place San Francisco Giants. For Puig, it's been difficult to see his teammates experience success without him.

Puig, who was hitting .260 with seven home runs and 34 RBI at the time of his demotion, is batting .369 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 18 games with Oklahoma City.
