Drew Rasmussen - Takes first loss Rasmussen (0-1) allowed one earned run in two hits and a walk while striking out one to take the loss against the Phillies.

Impact Rasmussen has pitched in a multi-inning relief role since being activated from the injured list Aug. 7. He has been effective the majority of the time, turning in eight scoreless appearances in 11 chances while also tallying two holds. Even in Wednesday's loss, Rasmussen wasn't hit particularly hard as he surrendered two singles to account for the majority of the damage against him.

Jonathan Aranda - Swats second homer Aranda went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies.

Impact The 26-year-old took Zack Wheeler deep in the sixth inning, briefly tying the game at 2-2 and giving Aranda his second homer of the season in 85 plate appearances. Aranda may be moving into a regular role for the Rays -- he's started five of the last six games, four at first base and one at second base, and gone 5-for-18 (.278) over that stretch with three doubles, a homer and a 3:4 BB:K. Tampa Bay has fallen seven games off the pace in the battle for the final wild-card spot in the AL with 16 games left to play, so the team is likely to continue giving a long look to unproven players like Aranda to evaluate their place in the franchise's future plans.

Shane Baz - No-decision against Phillies Baz came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.

Impact The home side tagged Baz for two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but he bounced back and closed the door for the rest of his outing, leaving the mound with the score tied 2-2. The right-hander tossed 52 of 78 pitches for strikes, and the Rays may have been keeping an eye on his workload after he threw a season-high 103 pitches in his prior start. Baz will look to get back in the win column in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Red Sox.

Impact The reliever's suspension comes after umpires determined he intentionally hit Nick Castellanos with a pitch during Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia. Uceta will begin serving the suspension Wednesday, but the Rays will now be able to add him to their bullpen a day earlier than initially expected.

Impact Caballero will hit the bench for the series finale after he had been included in each of the Rays' last three games, making one start apiece at third base, second base and shortstop. Though Junior Caminero, Brandon Lowe and Taylor Walls are seemingly viewed as the Rays' top options at those respective positions, expect Caballero to play regularly against left-handers and make at least semi-regular starts versus righties while manager Kevin Cash dishes out periodic off days to his normal starters. Caballero remains worth rostering for fantasy managers still looking to make up ground in the stolen-base department, as his 39 steals on the season are good for fourth in the majors.

Impact Diaz had received a day off Sunday, so his absence from the lineup three days later and after just two starts is somewhat surprising. The Rays haven't indicated that Diaz is dealing with any sort of injury, but fantasy managers may nonetheless want to keep a close eye on his status heading into the four-game series with the Guardians that begins Thursday. Jonathan Aranda will pick up a start at first base Wednesday in Diaz's stead.

Brandon Lowe - Rejoining lineup Wednesday Lowe (finger) will serve as the Rays' designated hitter and No. 2 batter in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Impact Lowe makes his return to the lineup after he didn't start in any of the Rays' past five games while he contended with ligament inflammation on both sides of his middle finger. He made pinch-hitting appearances in both of the first two games of the series and even saw some action at second base Monday, but the Rays aren't quite ready to let him play a full game in the field just yet. Lowe will be eased back in as the Rays' designated hitter, but it shouldn't be long before he resumes playing the keystone regularly.

Uceta was charged with three runs while retiring just one batter before getting the heave-ho after umpires determined he intentionally hit Castellanos with a pitch. The reliever has the right to appeal -- which would allow him to continue pitching until the appeal is heard -- but it's unclear whether he plans to exercise that right. Uceta is one of four different Rays relievers to pick up at least one save since Pete Fairbanks (lat) was injured last month.
