Paolo Espino - Slated to start Wednesday Espino will be called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday to start for the Blue Jays in their series finale in Baltimore, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Impact The 37-year-old righty will be back with the Blue Jays for the first time since April and is slated to make his first MLB start since 2022. He's been a full-time member of the rotation during his stay with Buffalo this season, logging a 5.09 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 36:18 K:BB in 53 innings. Espino hasn't covered more than four innings in any of his three starts with Buffalo since returning from a brief stint on the 7-day injured list earlier in July. As a result, Espino could be a candidate to get piggybacked Wednesday by Yariel Rodriguez, who struggled in the first inning of his start during the first game of the series Monday before being pulled after tossing only 43 pitches.

Chris Bassitt - Struggles again Tuesday Bassitt (8-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Orioles, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.

Impact Bassitt's hit a snag of late -- the right-hander's failed to make it through six innings in four of his last five starts as he's struggled to a 7.01 ERA in that span. Overall, Bassitt's ERA is up to 4.02 on the year with a 1.45 WHIP and 115:48 K:BB across 22 starts (123 innings). Impact Kirk took a 98-mph sinker off his left elbow during the sixth inning of Tuesday's contest and was replaced behind the dish by Brian Serven during the bottom half of the frame. The severity of Kirk's injury remains unknown, and the Jays would likely recall another catcher from the minors should the 25-year-old have to miss any amount of time.
