Struggles against St. Louis Megill (3-5) allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts through three innings, taking the loss in Wednesday's 11-4 defeat to the Cardinals. Impact The bulk of the damage to Megill's line came in the first inning when the Cardinals sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs. He ran into more trouble in the fourth, as he gave up a homer to Harrison Bader, a double to Jon Lester and a single to Tommy Edman before getting the hook. With this clunker in the books, it might be time to start asking some questions about the 26-year-old's workload. Between stints with Double-A Binghamton, Triple-A Syracuse and the Mets, Megill has worked 121 innings in 2021. That's more frames than he's thrown in a single season at any level in his career. His ERA is starting to show it too, as it sits at an ugly 7.66 over his last five starts.
