Impact Truex would start on the outside pole and be full of optimism that a good run was in the offing at Richmond. However, the Joe Gibbs Racing star would run into problems in shortly after the start of stage 3. Truex's No. 19 Toyota would develop an engine issue and would puff smoke. He would take it behind the wall for the night on lap 250 and suffer the disappointing DNF. It was his first DNF of the season.
