Matt Kenseth on Kansas: It's going to get 'racy' this weekend
Matt Kenseth has been one of the most consistent drivers at Kansas Speedway in the past several seasons, posting a career average finish of 13.333.
In his past 12 races in the Jayhawk State, he’s posted nine top-10 finishes and was four laps away from clinching his third win at the track when Joey Logano spun him out in last year’s Hollywood Casino 400.
Kenseth stayed away from specifically acknowledging the incident when talking about Kansas, but realizes that he's had success at the track in recent years.
“We were pretty close on the long run in last year’s race at Kansas, but it just ultimately didn’t work out for us in the end,” Kenseth said, referring to his crash with Logano. “The track does change at Kansas pretty rapidly, but I think the main key there is to have a car that’s versatile.”
After posting a fourth-place finish at Kansas in the spring race, Kenseth looks forward to another consistent run at the 1.5-mile track on Sunday.
“Kansas is a great race track and it’s widened out quite a bit over the last couple of years,” Kenseth said. “There’s definitely more than one groove to race on, so if you’re not able to make one of them work, you can always try another groove.
“It’s a great race track and it’s turned into a really 'racy' track, that’s a lot faster than other tracks that have gone through repaves.”
With several top Chase for the Sprint Cup contenders looking to rebound after rough runs at Charlotte Motor Speedway, it’ll surely be ‘racy’ on Sunday.
There’s always the chance we’ll get another incident like Kenseth vs. Logano that carries over into the Round of 8 in the Chase.
