Franchise tag deadline passes The Dolphins did not designate Wilkins to receive the franchise tag ahead of Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Impact Wilkins is thus set to hit free agency for the first time in his NFL career, while coming off his best season to date. While playing his third consecutive 17-game season in 2023, Wilkins racked up 65 total tackles (10 for a loss), 9.0 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, thriving both as a pass rusher and run stopper. The fact that Wilkins didn't receive the franchise tag doesn't necessarily preclude Miami from re-signing him, but it seems almost guaranteed he's offered a contract on the open market sizable enough that the Dolphins can't match it.
