A.J. Johnson - Tears pec, out for season Johnson suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Sunday's loss to the Raiders and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact The Broncos were bracing for the worst after sending Johnson in for an MRI on Monday, and as feared, his 2021 campaign is over. Denver has now lost both of its top insider linebackers to torn pecs, as Josey Jewell previously went on injured reserve after Week 2. Johnson is expected to soon undergo surgery to address the injury, and the Broncos' depth in the middle will be further challenged in the short term with Baron Browning (concussion) also ruled out for a Week 7 matchup with the Browns. Expect Justin Strnad and Micah Kiser to serve as the team's starting inside linebackers Thursday.

Courtland Sutton - Draws 14 targets Sutton caught eight receptions for 94 yards and one touchdown on 14 targets against Las Vegas on Sunday.
Impact It wasn't the most efficient effort for Sutton (57.1 percent catch rate, 6.7 yards per target), but the fact that Teddy Bridgewater looked Sutton's way on 28.6 percent of Denver's pass attempts is a testament to his workhorse-level talent at receiver. Other than a three-target game in Week 1, Sutton has drawn heavy usage in 2021, and he heads into his seventh game with 471 yards and two touchdowns to his credit. Sutton has been impressive in his return from his 2020 knee injury, to the point that the imminent return of Jerry Jeudy (ankle) might not harm Sutton's bottom line too much. The Broncos head to Cleveland for Week 7.

Noah Fant - Big game against Vegas Fant caught nine of 11 targets for 97 yards and one touchdown against Las Vegas on Sunday.
Impact The Broncos offense struggled for much of the game, and Fant didn't really get into high gear until the second half, but this box score is elite tight-end production and the level of play Fant might be more regularly capable of if the Broncos keep sending the targets his way. After allowing five sacks and an incredible 17 quarterback hits against Vegas, the Broncos need to do a much better job of managing the pass rush for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and the imminent return of Jerry Jeudy (ankle) threatens Fant's target share somewhat, but Fant is on the radar as a viable tight-end option nonetheless. Denver heads to Cleveland in Week 7.

Javonte Williams - Splits backfield tasks again Williams ran for 53 yards on 11 carries against Las Vegas on Sunday, adding three receptions for 15 yards on three targets.
Impact Williams provided Denver its biggest gain on the ground Sunday, producing a 30-yard carry that marked his third 20-yard carry on just 65 attempts in his young NFL career, but he once again almost evenly split the workload with veteran technical starter Melvin Gordon. As well as Williams has played through six games, the veteran Gordon has played fairly well in his own right, and Sunday he mostly matched Williams by producing 50 yards on 10 carries. The workload split between the two leaves them somewhat touchdown-dependent for fantasy viability, but the explosive production in the meantime is encouraging for the rookie. The Broncos hit the road for Cleveland in Week 7.

Melvin Gordon III - Splits backfield work again Gordon ran for 50 yards on 10 carries against Las Vegas on Sunday, adding three receptions for 23 yards on three targets.
Impact Like nearly every game this year, Gordon split the Denver backfield functions almost 50-50 with rookie second-round pick Javonte Williams, who produced 53 yards on 11 carries and three receptions for 15 yards on three targets. Each big play by either back seems promptly answered with a matching effort by the other, and that's been great for the Denver offense. It's frustrating for fantasy investors, of course, and as long as both players hold serve it will be difficult for the other to get ahead. It's a formula that generally leaves Gordon touchdown-dependent for fantasy viability, and there were no such opportunities Sunday with the Broncos trailing Las Vegas all game. Perhaps Gordon can find the end zone again in Week 7, but playing on the road against Cleveland could be a challenging venue.

Teddy Bridgewater - Volume offsets turnovers Bridgewater completed 35 of 49 pass attempts for 334 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions against Las Vegas on Sunday.
Impact Bridgewater of course deserves some blame for the three interceptions, but the strong Vegas pass rush made it difficult by sacking him five times, and that's before you bring up the outrageous 17 hits Bridgewater withstood in the contest. Bridgewater's numbers on the year are generally quite clean -- now at 10 touchdowns versus four interceptions -- so the Broncos should be willing to look past the pressure and turnover struggles from this game, especially since he stood tough and delivered the 334 yards and three touchdowns. A road trip to Cleveland in Week 7 brings its own substantial pass rush concern with Myles Garrett awaiting.
