On occasion, such a situation eventually leads to an absence, but that won't be the case for the second-year wide receiver. Sunday will mark Reed's first game action without Jordan Love, who is missing the first of what likely will be a multi-game absence for the quarterback due to a sprained MCL. As a result, he'll be on the receiving end of passes from Malik Willis, which on paper is a significant downgrade for Reed and the rest of Green Bay's pass catchers.

Opens campaign with big performance Reed caught four of six targets for 138 yards and a touchdown and added one rush for a 33-yard touchdown in Friday's Week 1 loss to Philadelphia.
Impact Reed had two huge plays in the second quarter -- a 33-yard TD run and a 70-yard reception for his second score. The second-year wideout had only three other catches, but two of them went for big gains of 26 and 33 yards, respectively. Quarterback Jordan Love spread the ball around pretty evenly Friday, with eight different players receiving at least two targets and all three of the team's top wideouts -- Reed, Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson -- getting at least five looks. That could continue throughout the campaign, as all three figure to play a big role in the Packers' passing game, but Reed has shown a knack for producing even without being the clear-cut No. 1 receiver during his time in the NFL. He'll likely be a key part of the team's offense again in Week 2 against Indianapolis, though his outlook will dampen if Love, who left the contest in the final seconds of the fourth quarter with an apparent leg injury, ends up missing time.

He finished his 2023 rookie season as the team leader in catches (64), receiving yards (793), yards from scrimmage (912) and total touchdowns (10), and his success working out of the slot hints at role security even though the Packers have a deep group of pass catchers that also includes WRs Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton. It is possible that depth impacts Reed's target volume as well as his playing time in two-wide formations, but there's no doubt he'll be a regular presence and priority when the Packers have three WRs on the field.
