Staley's post-game comments suggest the star running back is unlikely to miss additional time, but Ekeler's participation in practice leading up to Thursday's game against the Chiefs will still bear monitoring, as the short week falls at an inconvenient time for the banged-up Ekeler. Fellow running backs Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley saw a near-even split in opportunities against the Giants, with 42 scrimmage yards on 10 touches and 38 yards on 11 touches, respectively.

Impact Kelley and fellow running back Justin Jackson (nine carries for 35 yards) saw elevated workloads due to starter Austin Ekeler suffering an ankle injury in the third quarter. It's not clear what Ekeler's status might be for Week 15, but if he misses time then -- based on Sunday's game -- Kelley and Jackson would get the first cracks at the vacated workload. Kelley and Larry Rountree (inactive, coach's decision Sunday) are probably the Chargers' best candidates to run between the tackles among their backup runners, with the lightly-built Jackson profiling best for the passing-down work.

Impact Jackson's workload was slightly boosted due to starter Austin Ekeler (ankle) leaving the game in the third quarter. Splitting the resulting workload with fellow runner Joshua Kelley (10 carries for 33 yards), Jackson was the more productive of the two on a per-touch basis. If Ekeler misses time a similar split between the two runners might persist, with Kelley perhaps more active in the ground game and Jackson more present in passing situations. Impact The touchdown provided a modicum of respectability to Cook's box score, but it was mostly another inefficient showing from Cook, who is at once an aged veteran and an inconsistent technician. Rather than Cook stepping up in the absence of lead target Keenan Allen (COVID), it was WR3 Jalen Guyton and rookie Josh Palmer who stepped up in the Chargers' pass-catching rotation. Cook should remain the Chargers' TE1 through the rest of the year, but understudies Donald Parham and Stephen Anderson might play more snaps than most backup tight ends, at Cook's expense.

Palmer will likely revert to the WR4 role once Allen returns to the field, and Allen is expected to play against the Chiefs in Week 15.
