Dealt to Rams The Rams acquired Michel from the Rams on Wednesday in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round draft pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports,
Impact Damien Harris' status as the top option on the ground along with Michel's lack of utility as a receiver or special-teams contributor rendered the 2018 first-round pick an expendable piece among the Patriots' deep stable of backs. Michel should have a more favorable opportunity in Los Angeles, which already lost No. 1 back Cam Akers (Achilles) for the season and will be without Darrell Henderson (thumb) for the remainder of the preseason. Assuming he's ready to go for Week 1, Henderson will likely headline the Los Angeles backfield, but Michel should represent an upgrade over untested depth options Xavier Jones and Jake Funk.

Impact Michel's involvement as a pass-catcher Thursday was notable and could help him carve out a complementary role in 2021 working behind presumed starting RB Damien Harris, and along with change-of-pace back James White. Fifth-year option not picked up The Patriots declined Michel's fifth-year option on Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Impact New England declined to keep Michel around for 2022 in exchange for guaranteeing him a $4.5 million salary, but the team did pick up Isaiah Wynn's $10.4 million fifth-year option. The 26-year-old Michel was efficient in limited action last season, with 79 carries for 449 yards (5.7 YPC) and one rushing touchdown in nine contests, but he only handled more than 10 carries in a single contest.
