Dwight Freeney made $200K bonus on game-winning sack
Dwight Freeney has been sacking opposing quarterbacks for the better part of 14 years, and one of the most important takedowns of his career sealed a win for the Arizona Cardinals over the Minnesota Vikings Thursday night.
It also netted Freeney an extra $200,000.
As ESPN’s Field Yates notes, Freeney earned a $200,000 bonus by recording his fourth sack of the year when he stripped Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals recovered the fumble. Here’s a video of the play.
Freeney now ranks 19th all time with 115.5 sacks in his career. The fact that he is still making an impact in his 14th season is remarkable. It certainly helped that Bridgewater held onto the ball too long and Mike Zimmer made the most idiotic coaching decision since Tom Coughlin did this, but we won’t get into all that here. Way to go, Dwight.
