Breakout year coming for Tavon Austin?

Published Jul. 23, 2015 5:18 p.m. ET

Lauded as arguably the best wide receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft class, Tavon Austin has yet to live up to expectations in St. Louis.

In two underwhelming seasons thus far, Austin has totaled just 71 receptions for 660 yards. Last year, he failed to record a receiving touchdown.

But offseason reports suggest Austin might be ready to emerge as a legitimate, consistent threat for the Rams.

“Tavon’s had a great offseason,” Rams’ offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti said. “It starts in the classroom. He’s learning, he’s paying attention. He’s bringing it to the practice field. “You just see it from his route running. What a difference. His effort, his attention to detail.”

Perhaps this will be the year the Rams' investment in Austin finally pays off.
