Creed's lead singer becomes a Panthers fan thanks to 'Creedbombing'
Scott Stapp, lead singer for the band Creed, is jumping on the Carolina Panthers' bandwagon after the team's "Creedbombing" activity has gone viral.
As Panthers linebacker Ben Jacobs explains, Creedbombing is when you look the other person square in the eye and sing the lyrics to a Creed song. Stapp caught wind of it recently, and he became a big fan of the idea and the Panthers.
“I've been cheering for these guys so hard,” Stapp said. “I had to move my tour bus like five different places so I could get reception and watch (the NFC Championship Game) the other night. I'm so fired up and pumped up for these guys. They are my team right now.”
The Panthers' players have used it to relieve stress during a pressure-packed postseason run, but the humor was not lost with Stapp.
“I just started dying laughing,” Stapp said. “And then the next thing you know, my band is doing it to me out on tour. And I saw the humor in it and saw how funny it was. I think it's awesome.”
Stapp even has intentions of dropping a Creedbomb or two on an unsuspecting acquaintance in his life. He offered up an example of what one of his Creedbombs might sound like.
“I would take it from the song ‘What If.' I would say, ‘The more you hold us down, the more we press on.'"
The Panthers can rest easy knowing that the lead singer of the band they imitate is in their corner. He even has some advice for the team as they head into the biggest game of their careers.
“I would tell these guys, and I know it's the Super Bowl so they're amped up, but take it to the next level. Play it like it's the last time you're ever going to play football again in your life. What do you want your legacy to be? I would tell them just kill it.”
