Cowboys to start Matt Cassel, bench Brandon Weeden after bye

After three straight losses with Brandon Weeden at quarterback, the Dallas Cowboys will turn to veteran Matt Cassel to start when the team comes out of their Week 6 bye, FOX Sports NFL insider Mike Garafolo has confirmed.

ESPN first reported the news.

Weeden's struggles as starter aren't told entirely by his numbers. While he was able to completed 72.4 percent of his passes, Weeden threw for only two touchdown passes since taking over for the injured Tony Romo.

Against the Patriots on Sunday, Weeden was unable to consistently move the offense — he finished with just 188 passing yards and the offense converted just 4 of 14 third downs.

Cassel has struggled as a starter over the past four seasons. Through the past 30 games dating to the 2011 regular season, Cassel has completed less than 60 percent of his passes with just 30 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

In 2008, Cassel took over for an injured Tom Brady and led the Patriots to 11 wins, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards, 21 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions. Cassell also led the Chiefs to a division title in 2010.
