Darrelle Revis considered retirement after knee injury in 2012

When New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis went down with a torn ACL in 2012, everyone assumed it was the same injury that has marred thousands of athletes around the world. That was hardly the case. In a cover story for Sports Illustrated, Revis revealed just how serious the injury was and the effect it had on his desire to play football. It was so serious that Revis even considered retiring from the game.
The injury also reportedly required microfracture surgery, which is no simple procedure. Following the injury, Revis was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he was given a massive $96 million contract. Of course, Revis only played one season in Tampa before moving on to the World Champion New England Patriots.
Thankfully for everyone, Revis was able to get through the injury both mentally and physically, and remains one of the best corners in all of football. It's never easy for a player to come back from an injury as serious as a torn ACL, but Revis was able to do just that and still play at a very high level.
Back with the Jets this season, Revis is looking to make New York's defense elite and as great as it once was when he was with the team from 2007 to 2012.
