Colin Kaepernick and Sam Bradford might be stuck thanks to the Broncos

By trading up to select Paxton Lynch in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, the Denver Broncos strengthened their quarterback situation, while possibly also sealing the fate of two veteran QBs.

In the weeks leading up to the draft, the Broncos had been in pursuit of the San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick. And just days before the draft, they reportedly also inquired about the Philadelphia Eagles' Sam Bradford. Both Kaepernick and Bradford are disgruntled and seeking a trade, but both also are very expensive in terms of salary and acquisition cost.

And with Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Lynch now aboard, the Broncos likely are out of the market for an expensive veteran QB. In fact, Broncos GM John Elway closed the door on the Kaepernick trade talks on Thursday night.

"Yeah we can end that," Elway told 9 News in Denver. "We're thrilled we added Paxton. We think he can have a long career and he can be that guy. We're not going to put too much pressure on him too early, break him in  slowly, but we're really thrilled that he's a guy with a lot of upside and he's going to continue to get better."

That all but eliminates the idea of Bradford as a Bronco as well; besides, the Eagles have repeatedly stated that they view Bradford as their starter and aren't looking to trade him.

Unless another team suddenly shows interest in Bradford and Kaepernick, they likely will begin the 2016 season where they ended the 2015 season.
