Gary Kubiak: Broncos 'totally committed' to Peyton Manning

Gary Kubiak clearly stated that the Denver Broncos remain “totally committed” to restoring Peyton Manning to health and getting him back on the field as the team’s starting quarterback, despite recent conjecture to the contrary.

“I didn’t know anything about that,” Kubiak told reporters, via Pro Football Talk. “Listen, like I told you guys before, we’re totally committed to getting our quarterback — getting Peyton healthy and getting him back. Nothing has changed. Nothing has changed with where we’re headed this week. Brock is our starter this week, and we’re all-in getting ready for San Diego. We are week-to-week and doing everything we can to win the next football game. Absolutely nothing has changed.”

The head coach’s comments reinforce an organizational stance that there is no accuracy to reports filed this week by Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole that indicated the team already has decided to go with Brock Osweiler for the remainder of the season. The team went so far as to issue a strongly worded tweet disputing the veracity of Cole’s report.

The sentiment against “sources” was echoed in comments made by Manning himself, although not specifically about Cole’s report.

“This is when ‘they’ and ‘sources’ seem to show their heads a little bit," he said via an AP report. “And I’ve always wanted to meet ‘they’ and ‘sources’ because both seem to know a lot. But I haven’t thought much more than about trying to get healthy. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

Kubiak arguably played the situation the best he possibly could. The “week-to-week” philosophy allows the Broncos some wiggle room as it relates to the timing of Manning’s ultimate recovery and readiness against Osweiler’s solid play in his stead.

But no matter how the Broncos, Kubiak and company play it, it’s a tricky spot to navigate. That much is obvious.
