Darius Slay's goal for 2015: 'Make everyone mad at me'

Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay isn't interested in making friends, particularly with opposing quarterbacks. After claiming a starting job last year, Slay's goals for the 2015 season are rather straightforward.

"My goal is to make a play on every quarterback and make everyone mad at me," Slay said, per Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Slay, 24, was a second-round pick out of Mississippi State in the 2013 NFL Draft. Although he started all 16 games and defended 18 passes last season (two interceptions), the young cornerback promises that the best is yet to come.

"I ain't arrived yet. I still got somewhere to go, man," Slay said, via MLive.com. "I'm just trying to get to be one of the best, so that when you see 23 out there, you know he's going to bring his 'A'-game.

"I want a lot of people to look at me as great, and that's it."

For Detroit to field a stifling pass defense this season, Slay and 13th-year veteran Rashean Mathis must be lockdown coverage men on the outsides. The up-and-coming cornerback seems to have the confidence to hold up his end of the bargain, but we'll see if Slay's bite backs up his bark in the weeks and months to come.
