Green Bay Packers clearing space for development near Lambeau Field
With plans to expand in the area, the Green Bay Packers razed two houses on the south side of Lambeau Field this week, according to Richard Ryman of Press-Gazette Media. The houses, acquired by the team in 2014, are adjacent to the area used for event Parking.
Although Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy says the space being cleared on the south side won't be used for commercial development, according to Press-Gazette Media, the property to be razed on the west side will be. Last month, Murphy gave a teaser about the team's plans for "non-football sources of income" in the area.
"A big important piece of it will be a public plaza. We think we've got some exciting plans for that," Murphy told Press-Gazette Media. "We've got a number of different things that we're looking at that we think will help attract and bring more people to the area, and it's going to help everybody."
The Packers have been acquiring property surrounding Lambeau Field since 1975, according to Press-Gazette Media.
