Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett reportedly suffered thumb injury against Texans
Jacoby Brissett made his first career NFL start in front of a primetime audience on Thursday night, leading the Patriots to a dominant 27-0 victory over the Houston Texans in Foxboro. It was a big night for the rookie quarterback, who rushed for a touchdown while replacing injured interim starter Jimmy Garoppolo, but he was delivered some bad news on Friday.
Brissett reportedly injured the thumb of his right throwing hand, though there are conflicting reports on the severity of the injury.
According to WEEI's Mike Petraglia, who was first to report the news, Brissett suffered a torn ligament and may need surgery.
But the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the injury isn't believed to be too serious. A report from ESPN's Dianna Russini said Brissett suffered a sprained thumb and is "going to be fine."

At this point, the Patriots have got to be wondering how much more bad luck is going to hit the quarterback position on their depth chart. Tom Brady is serving a four-game suspension for DeflateGate, Garoppolo sprained the AC joint in his right throwing shoulder last weekend, and now the injury to Brissett.
Despite all of that, the Patriots have weathered the storm and started the season an impressive 3-0. Their Week 4 divisional matchup against the Bills will be the final game that Brady has to sit but, with their backup and their backup's backup dinged up, they'll likely need to bring in additional help at the quarterback position. Unless, of course, they're prepared to let wide receiver Julian Edelman take snaps under center like he did in college.
