WATCH: Rams' Zuerlein sets franchise record with booming 61-yard FG

St. Louis Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein set a franchise record with a 61-yard field goal at the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Zuerlein, with a stiff breeze to his back, tied three other kickers for the seventh-longest field goal in NFL history. He eclipsed his previous career best of 60 yards by splitting the uprights with a booming kick that reached the netting behind the end zone at TCF Bank Stadium.

It was the third 60-plus yard attempt this season for Zuerlein, who entered Sunday's matchup in a slump, having converted 3-of-9 attempts over the previous three games. Four of those misses were from beyond 50 yards, including a 63- and 64-yarder.

Perhaps due to the wind, Rams coach Jeff Fisher elected to bypass an extra point in the first quarter and rookie running back Todd Gurley was stuffed on the two-point attempt.

Matt Prater owns the league record with a 64-yard field goal while with the Denver Broncos in December 2013. Four kickers -- Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam, Sebastian Janikowski and David Akers -- have connected from 63 yards.
