Texans reportedly unsure J.J. Watt will be ready for their first two games
The Houston Texans are happy with the progress three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt is making in his recovery from July back surgery, but they still aren’t sure whether he’ll make it back on the field in time for the start of the regular season.
Watt was given a six- to eight-week recovery estimate when he underwent a procedure to repair a herniated disc July 20, and coach Bill O’Brien told ESPN on Friday that he remains unsure whether Watt will be available for the team’s first two games.

Houston opens its season with games against Chicago (Sept. 11) and Kansas City (Sept. 18).
Watt, 27, had a league-high 17.5 sacks last season despite playing much of the year with torn core muscles.
