Redskins' Culliver banned one game for violating league conduct policy

Published Sep. 15, 2015 6:18 p.m. ET

Washington Redskins cornerback Chris Culliver was suspended one game by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The league did not offer any specifics as to why Culliver was being punished, although he was arrested in March 2014 on hit-and-run charges and possession of brass knuckles. The suspension will keep Culliver out of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Culliver will be eligible to rejoin the team next Monday, but his absence deals another blow to an already-shorthanded secondary. Starting safety Duke Ihenacho was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday with a broken wrist.

The 27-year-old Culliver had a career-high four interceptions with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014. The Redskins signed a cornerback Tuesday, bringing in Will Blackmon, who has previously spent time with the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
