Sunday's Rams-Jets game didn't include very many scoring highlights - though the Jets did execute a perfect hook-and-ladder play for a touchdown - so this 78-yard punt from Los Angeles' Johnny Hekker was one of the best plays of the game. Hekker, who entered the game averaging 45.8 yards per punt, launched a punt from his own 7-yard line to inside the Jets' 10.
Hekker’s punt still fell well short of the NFL record for the longest punt, which will never be broken. In 1969, Jets punter Steve O’Neal hit a 98-yard punt from his own 1-yard line to the opposing 1-yard line, aided by a very fortuitous bounce and roll of 32 yards.
