WR Isaac Fruechte is 'grateful for the opportunity' to become a Viking
Former University of Minnesota WR Isaac Fruechte earned a free-agent contract from the Minnesota Vikings on Monday following a stellar tryout at rookie minicamp over the weekend, according to the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.
"I'm kind of at a loss for words," Fruechte told the paper. "I'm grateful for the opportunity. I'm excited for my chance. I hope I can really show these folks that I've got some skills and really work hard for this team."
Fruechte hails from Caledonia, a town of 3,000 and the wideout's phone has been ringing non-stop.
"Caledonia is jacked," Fruechte's father Carl, who coached his son in high school, told the paper. .
Isaac Fruechte - who played at Minnesota for three years and caught 18 balls for 292 yards and a touchdown in his 2014 senior season - has been given a three-year deal by the Vikings.
According to the Star-Tribune, Fruechte believes the versatility he was able to show in camp had a lot to do with him earning the contract.
"I tried to play as fast as I could and catch the balls that were thrown to me," Fruechte told the newspaper. "I think I also showed that I could help them out on special teams."
