Four touches against Patriots Jones rushed twice for 12 yards and caught two of two targets for 10 yards during Sunday's 28-13 win over the Patriots.

Impact With Alvin Kamara again commanding over 80 percent of the offensive snaps, Jones was nothing more than a change-of-pace option who seemingly lacks the standalone fantasy value that Latavius Murray once had with the Saints. As such, the 11 carries Jones saw Week 1 against Green Bay are looking more and more like a product of the blowout nature of the game than anything else. While Jones would have significant fantasy value if anything happens to Kamara, he's probably not even a consideration for the flex spot otherwise.

Impact The Saints' offense has no success moving the ball at all, leaving few touches and little room to operate for the rookie running back. Jones remains firmly behind Alvin Kamara on the depth chart, and the game script may not favor him getting much work in Week 3 as New Orleans is on the road in New England.

Impact Jones was mixed into the offense from the second series onwards, but his final numbers probably overstate his involvement in the run game considering he rushed four straight times to run out the clock when the Saints were up 28 with less than two minutes remaining. The seven carries he otherwise saw were less than Latavius Murray's average of 9.6 rushing attempts from last year. Meanwhile Alvin Kamara's 20 carries was a hike from the 12.5 he averaged in 2020. If this sort of split holds, Jones may be less of a fantasy asset than Murray was in year's past, but he'll nonetheless be one of the more valuable backups to own in case something happens to Kamara.

Top backup to Kamara Jones will begin the season as the Saints' No. 2 running back after Latavius Murray was released Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Impact Jones was pushing for the No. 2 role behind Alvin Kamara throughout training camp, and the release of Murray indicates New Orleans is comfortable with Jones in that role. Jones spent last season on the practice squad before being promoted for Week 17 and carrying the ball three times for 13 yards. Kamara will remain the top dog in the backfield as long as he stays healthy, but Jones is now in line for occasional snaps and carries as the top backup.

Impact Jones is at least the No. 3 running back behind Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray, especially after Devonta Freeman was released Tuesday. However, the 30-year-old Murray took limited snaps during training camp before being significantly outproduced by the 23-year-old Jones during the preseason. Even if Murray remains in the No. 2 role early on this season, it wouldn't be a surprise if Jones were to take it from him at some point down the road.

Impact Jeff Duncan of The Athletic goes a step further and calls Jones the second-best running back on the Saints' roster -- a comment that's primarily meant as praise but also adds to the growing doubts surrounding Latavius Murray. While Murray survived a purge of veteran players earlier this offseason, the 31-year-old isn't necessarily safe as he sports a non-guaranteed $2.95 million base salary while Jones and Devonta Freeman are signed for much less. Jones and Murray are the names to watch behind Alvin Kamara in the New Orleans backfield, with Freeman a long shot to make the Week 1 roster and Dwayne Washington mostly a special teams player.
