Could return Friday Roslovic (ankle) is expected to return either Friday versus the Maple Leafs or Saturday versus the Sabres, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Impact Roslovic won't play versus New Jersey on Wednesday, but he is close to a return from an ankle fracture. The 26-year-old forward will miss his 21st consecutive game Wednesday. Roslovic will likely be eased back in upon his return, so he should be expected to take a bottom-six role once activated from injured reserve.

Likely to miss next two games Roslovic (ankle) isn't expected to return until after the Christmas break, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports Wednesday.

Impact Columbus will play against Washington on Thursday and Toronto on Saturday before the break. Roslovic hasn't been in the lineup since Nov. 12 due to the injury. He has two goals and eight points in 14 outings this year.

Impact Roslovic has gotten off to a solid start with two goals and eight points through 13 games this season, so this is somewhat of a significant loss for the Blue Jackets. With Roslovic facing a long-term absence, Mathieu Olivier and Emil Bemstrom will both be in contention for expanded roles for the foreseeable future.

Impact Despite his impressive efforts in helping the Blue Jackets build a 3-1 lead midway through the second period, Roslovic arguably ended up being the goat on the night as it was his inadvertent screen of Elvis Merzlikins that allowed Cole Caufield to pot the OT winner. Roslovic is getting a chance to prove he can be a top-six forward for Columbus, and the 26-year-old has a four-game point streak going in which he's racked up two goals and six points, but he'll need to reduce the defensive lapses in crucial moments to hang on to his spot.

Prior to this contest, a pair of blocked shots held up as Roslovic's only meaningful contribution between two games that sandwiched his dreaded "did not play - coach's decision" designation last Saturday. Drafted 25th overall in 2015, Roslovic managed a career-high 33 assists among 44 total points last season, but he has an uphill battle this time around as a bottom-six forward. Additionally, he has been adjusting to a new coach in Pascal Vincent.
