Impact Miller missed Monday's game versus Vegas with the illness, but that appears to be the extent of his absence. The Devils brought up Daniil Misyul from AHL Utica and claimed Nick DeSimone off waivers from Calgary on Thursday, so Miller's spot in the lineup shouldn't be considered comfortable.

Nico Daws - Set to start Thursday Daws is expected to start on the road against Carolina on Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Impact Daws has a 3-4-0 record, 3.19 GAA and .903 save percentage in seven contests this season. He's lost his last three starts while stopping 85 of 96 shots (.885 save percentage). Carolina will be a tough adversary for the struggling goaltender -- the Hurricanes rank 10th offensively this year with 3.39 goals per game.

Dougie Hamilton - Placed on long-term injured reserve Hamilton (pectoral) was moved from injured reserve to the long-term injured reserve Thursday, James Nichols of New Jersey Hockey Now reports.
Impact This move can be retroactive to Nov. 28, and Hamilton isn't expected to return until March at the earliest, so this doesn't impact his timetable. However, it does give the Devils considerable cap maneuverability for the duration of Hamilton's time on LTIR. The 30-year-old defenseman, who comes with a $9 million cap hit, has five goals and 16 points in 20 contests in 2023-24.

Jack Hughes - On injured reserve Hughes (upper body) was put on injured reserve Thursday.
Impact The move is retroactive to Jan. 5, so Hughes can be activated at any time, but he's not expected to return before the All-Star Game anyway. Putting Hughes on IR opened up a roster spot, which the Devils used to claim Nick DeSimone off waivers from Calgary on Thursday. Hughes has 15 goals and 45 points in 32 contests this season.

Impact DeSimone has a goal, five points, 19 shots, 12 hits and 21 blocks in 23 contests this season. Although he might not make his Devils debut Thursday in Carolina, DeSimone is likely to serve as a third-pairing defenseman once he does draw into the lineup.
