Impact Kahkonen has lost his last six starts and was pulled in the second period during his most recent appearance, giving up four goals on 20 shots versus Toronto. Kahkonen is 5-12-1 with a 3.70 GAA and an .897 save percentage. His name has been bandied about in trade rumors, as there are some contenders looking for goaltending help. The Sabres are tied for 17th in NHL scoring with 127 goals, heading into action Saturday.

Ty Emberson - Out week-to-week Emberson is expected to be out of action week-to-week after suffering an undisclosed injury in Toronto on Tuesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Impact Emberson missed Thursday's tilt in Montreal and will miss the remaining three games of the Sharks' five-game road trip. The 23-year-old defenseman has one goal, six assists, 30 blocked shots and 43 hits in 21 games this season. Nikita Okhotyuk replaced Emberson in the lineup Thursday.

Nikita Okhotiuk - First goal in 29 games Okhotyuk scored the game-winning goal Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Canadiens.
Impact Okhotyuk pinched in from the left point to take a pass from Mikael Granlund before snapping a shot under Sam Montembeault's right arm. It was his first goal in 29 games. Okhotyuk is often the forgotten man in the Timo Meier trade with New Jersey. He's known for his physical play, not his scoring. But we have to say he showed a scorer's instinct on Thursday's snipe.

Mackenzie Blackwood - Dazzles in win Blackwood made 34 saves in a 3-2 win over Montreal on Thursday.
Impact Blackwood sparkled on several breakaways, including one by Josh Anderson in the first when the Sharks were up 1-0 and another mid-way through the third by Nick Suzuki when the score was 3-1. He's doing incredible work this season behind a porous team. Blackwood's numbers don't look strong at all -- he's 5-16-2 in 23 starts this season, his GAA is approaching four and his save percentage is well below the mythical hockey Mendoza line (.900). But Blackwood could become trade bait by deadline for a team looking to add depth. His fantasy value would go up in a more competitive city, even in a backup role.

Impact Blackwood has lost his last five starts, giving up 22 goals on 143 shots as the Sharks are the worst defensive team in the NHL. Blackwood is 4-16-2 with a 3.87 GAA and an .890 save percentage this season. The Canadiens are averaging 2.73 goals per game this season, 28th in the league.

Mackenzie Blackwood - Needed in relief Tuesday Blackwood stopped 22 of 25 shots after replacing Kaapo Kahkonen early in the second period of Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Impact Neither goalie had much success against the Toronto onslaught, but Kahkonen got stuck with the loss. Blackwood hasn't won a game since Dec. 12, losing five straight decisions with a 4.50 GAA and .854 save percentage since that victory, but San Jose has lost 12 straight games overall during that time. Sharks coach David Quinn will likely continue flipping back and forth between the two in the crease until one of them can provide a spark of hope for the flailing club.

Impact The Sharks were overwhelmed from the opening puck drop, and Kahkonen can hardly be blamed for the final result when he was facing nearly a shot a minute from the Leafs. The 27-year-old netminder has dropped seven straight decisions, going 0-6-1 in his last eight outings with a 3.44 GAA and .897 save percentage, but those are actually better ratios than Blackwood has managed (3.96 GAA, .875 save percentage) during that same time period.
