Gooden and Hardy Call Sunday Afternoon Bouts on FS1 and the FOX Sports App
LOS ANGELES – Today, FOX Sports announces former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and retired contender Kenny Florian serve as analysts alongside host Brendan Fitzgerald for FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT: SHOGUN VS. SMITH programming in a rare Sunday afternoon broadcast on July 22.
Live from Hamburg, Germany, John Gooden and former title contender and analyst Dan Hardy call the fights on FS1 and the FOX Sports app, while Heidi Androl reports and interviews fighters onsite. Victor Davila and Marlon Vera call the fights in Spanish on FOX Deportes.
Brazilian legend Shogun Rua (24-10) makes his return to the Octagon on Sunday, as he faces explosive rising star Anthony Smith (29-13) in the main event. Shogun, the 36-year-old former light heavyweight champion, is looking to continue his climb toward another title opportunity with a win against Smith. With four wins in his last five fights, Smith looks to continue his winning ways. Plus, two more elite light heavyweights face off in the co-main event when No. 3-ranked Glover Teixeria (27-6) battles late replacement No. 9 Corey Anderson (15-5).
The weekend’s coverage kicks off Saturday, July 21 with the FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT WEIGH-IN SHOW on FS1 and streaming on the FOX Sports app at 7:00 PM ET, with Fitzgerald, Evans and Florian on the desk, previewing the fights. Androl interviews fighters onsite.
Action continues Sunday at 11:00 AM ET with FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT PREFIGHT SHOW, as the same desk crew breaks down the upcoming battles. The FS1 UFC FIGHT NIGHT PRELIMS begin at 12:00 PM ET on FS1, FOX Deportes and the FOX Sports app, with Gooden and Hardy calling the four exciting bouts. Lightweight Nick Hein (14-3, 1NC) faces Damir Hadzovic (11-4), while welterweight Emil Meek (9-2-1, 1NC) battles Bartosz Fabinski (13-2). Khalid Taha (12-1) and Nad Narimani (10-2) square off at 145 pounds. Plus, Justin Ledet (9-0, 1NC) takes on Aleksandar Rakic (8-1) in a light heavyweight thriller to kick off the PRELIMS.
The main card continues at 2:00 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes, featuring six thrilling bouts, including the headliner between Shogun and Smith and the co-main event between Teixeria and Anderson. Vitor Miranda (13-6) tangles with Abu Azaitar (13-1-1, 1NC) in a middleweight scrap.
