FOX NASCAR Broadcast Team Chooses a Title Favorite; Weighs in on Unique Round of 8 Makeup

CHARLOTTE, NC – FOX Sports Racing, which carries the full NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES season live in Canada, is available on free preview this week to Canadian subscribers, highlighted by Sunday’s Truck Series race from Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (2:30 PM ET on FS1). Current FOX Sports Racing distributors are making it available to all subscribers during the preview period, which includes Sunday’s race. Sunday’s coverage begins at 2:00 PM ET with NASCAR RACEDAY-NCWTS.

The quest for the 2018 NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES championship commences this weekend with the first of seven races comprising the Playoffs. The Round of 8 kicks off Sunday from the Canadian road course, live on FS1 at 2:30 PM ET (pre-race coverage beginning at 2:00 PM ET with NASCAR RACEDAY-NCWTS)

What is your take on the makeup of the three races in the Round of 8 Truck Series Playoffs?
“Two of the three races in the Round of 8 easily have the potential to be wildcards – Sunday’s road course at Canada and Talladega, which is the final race in the round. Either could determine who makes it through to the next round. I’ve never seen a Playoff round in any of the three series that lays out like this, particularly to begin the championship run.”

Who is your pick to win the 2018 NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES championship?
“Today, I say Brett Moffitt. A month ago, I would have said Noah Gragson, and two months ago, I would have said Johnny Sauter. I’m so impressed with the job Moffitt has done behind the wheel and the way the team has fought through sponsorship challenges. They keep filling the gaps and building toward a championship, despite worries in the early part of the season about being able to run all year. I’m equally impressed with how Moffitt wins with late-race heroics. Then you’ve got the veteran in Sauter, who says ‘I appreciate your talent but you have some work to do to beat me.’”

“I’m picking Johnny Sauter because they have experience and have been there before. I don’t think it’s by a large margin, though. I was a little concerned about Sauter recently, but then he answered the bell at Michigan, ran really well and came within a half-truck length of winning. With his experience and his solid GMS team, I give him a slight edge.”

“I picked Johnny Sauter because although Noah Gragson shows flashes, Brett Moffitt would be the 1A if there was a 1A, because his talent has proven to be the difference. When it comes to Homestead, given the fact he has been there before and won at that level, that last pressure-filled race will set him apart. I recently chose Ben Rhodes as the fourth driver to make it to Homestead and I picked Sauter to win the championship.”

“I’m going with Noah Gragson to win the title. He can come across as a bit wild, but I think his focus is there. Paired with Kyle Busch Motorsports and his title-winning crew chief, I think he raises the trophy in Homestead.”

Moffitt and Scott Zipadelli are as good a driver/crew chief combo as there is in the series. They don’t lose their composure; they have speed and they’re proven winners. “I don’t have a favorite because on any given day, Sauter or Moffitt will win. Sauter definitely has more experience than Moffitt, but Moffitt’s driving has been spot-on all year with very little mistakes. They’re so minimal that they’re hard to pick out, so I’m putting them even for the title.”

Will the fact this weekend’s race is run on a road course give any of the championship contenders an advantage over the others?
“I don’t think Johnny Sauter loves road courses. Noah Gragson is awfully good at road courses and was right there last year. Brett Moffitt won at Watkins Glen. I’d probably give Moffitt and Gragson a little edge over Sauter and the other title contenders at Canada. Justin Haley also has some background on road courses and ran well there before, so he should be right up there. Maybe Haley doesn’t go in with a bunch of playoff points like the rest, but wins at Canada sending him to the next round.”
