FOX SPORTS VOICES: MLK DAY SPECIAL Follows Live Game Coverage
NEW YORK – FOX Sports celebrates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 18, with a special college basketball presentation featuring Notre Dame at Howard live on FOX beginning at 2:00 PM ET, followed by FOX SPORTS VOICES: MLK DAY SPECIAL. FOX College Hoops lead play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson returns to his alma mater to call the action, and National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Famer and NBA veteran Jim Jackson provides analysis.
FOX Sports’ coverage includes special messages from prominent sports and entertainment figures sharing stories of what Martin Luther King Jr. means to them. Appearing on the FOX Sports podcast “Titus & Tate” in the week leading up to the game, Johnson talks about some of his favorite memories at Howard, the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and previews the matchup with hosts Mark Titus and Tate Frazier.
“I’m so excited to return to Howard for this special game and to celebrate Dr. King on campus at an HBCU,” Johnson said. “Not only did I learn how to become a sports broadcaster at Howard, but the lessons I learned away from the microphone helped me become the person I am today.”
Host Mike Hill and analysts Steve Lavin and Donny Marshall provide pregame, halftime and postgame coverage from the network’s Los Angeles studios. FOX COLLEGE HOOPS TIP-OFF begins at 2:00 PM ET on FOX with Notre Dame at Howard tipping off at 2:30 PM ET from Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
FOX SPORTS VOICES: MLK DAY SPECIAL airs immediately following postgame coverage on FOX. Hosted by FOX Sports broadcasters Curt Menefee and Michael Strahan, the one-hour special begins at 5:00 PM ET and illuminates the work of athletes who are uplifting their communities during this season of change and tells compelling stories of their activism. VOICES spotlights civil rights leader John Lewis, whose profound impact working for equal rights justice has reached every corner of our nation, including current social justice initiatives in the NFL. Among his immeasurable influence, the late Georgia congressman had special ties to the Atlanta Falcons and the organization’s community activism within the hometown of Dr. King. The program also includes appearances by Pro Football Hall of Famer and current Jackson State head football coach Deion Sanders, the WNBA’s Renee Montgomery, who took last season off to focus on social justice initiatives, and additional sports stars advocating for change.
“We are honored to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with this special presentation on our biggest platform,” said Brad Zager, Executive Producer, EVP/Head of Production & Operations, FOX Sports. “We look forward to celebrating Dr. King’s legacy and highlighting the important role of HBCUs during our production.”
