FOX Sports Celebrates 100 Days to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with New Common Goal Partnership and Community Festival
LOS ANGELES – On Tuesday, Aug. 9, FOX Sports teamed with global nonprofit organization Common Goal and current Common Goal professional football club members Angel City FC and Tigres UANL, to celebrate 100 days to the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with an exciting and impact-driven community event – Common Goal Festival Los Angeles – that welcomed more than 80 local athletes from six sports-based youth development nonprofit organizations.
Common Goal Festival Los Angeles featured youth athletes participating in skills trainings and personal empowerment clinics alongside FOX Soccer broadcasters Alexi Lalas, Stu Holden, Jenny Taft, Maurice Edu and Rodolfo Landeros. Joining them on the pitch and in the fun were Angel City FC’s Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel alongside Tigres UANL players Anika Rodríguez, Bianca Sierra and Ammanda Marroquin. The event was held at GOALS Soccer Center in South Gate, California and culminated with a thrilling soccer tournament crowning nonprofit participant America SCORES Los Angeles champion.
“Soccer is a sport that brings people together, and this partnership really serves as an example of that,” said Holden. “It brings communities together, it brings groups of friends together and this fall, you can expect to watch the biggest, greatest and best sporting event on the planet when the World Cup begins on FOX.”
FOX Sports’ partnership with Common Goal advances the organization’s mission to use soccer to transform the lives of underserved and underrepresented youth in communities across the country, while utilizing the world’s biggest sporting event to tell the story of soccer for good. The partnership furthers FOX Sports’ efforts through its FOX Sports Supports community impact program to create fighting chances for all athletes to play and access sports.
“These kind of engagements are so important because they help to move the sport forward and help to create more access, especially for underprivileged kids who might not get those opportunities,” said Edu.
Additional community events will be held this year in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup™ as part of the FOX Sports and Common Goal partnership.
