FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP TONIGHT Highlights:
Eric Wynalda thinks Christen Press needs to get out of her own head:
“If she could just stop thinking and just start playing, she’ll be so much better. There’s a ton of talent in there. But the worst feeling in the world is when you’re out there and you keep checking the sidelines because you know your number’s coming up. I think Jill Ellis doesn’t trust her enough.”
Ariane Hingst on China coach Hao Wei’s interference with a player during a throw-in for New Zealand:
“I prefer a coach who is really emotional, who’s into the game. I don’t want a coach just sitting there and being relaxed. But this is overreacting. You get into the business of the players and disturb the opponent, this is not what we want to see. Keep your emotions to yourself a little bit, because this is like an actor. We want to play soccer; we are not in a Hollywood movie.”
Monica Gonzalez on USA’s final group stage match against Nigeria:
“One of the best things Nigeria has going for them is their spirit, their passion and their soul. But if you’re the United States, you can smother that by getting an early goal. That’s got to be key for them in the beginning, and then after that, just play their good soccer. For them it should be a tune-up game going into the knockout rounds. I think they should easily get a win.”
