Summer of Soccer Continues to Post Big Audiences As New Mark Is Set for Men’s Soccer Game
FOX Sports’ Summer of Soccer continues to pull in huge viewership numbers, as the nation continues to bask in the afterglow of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s record third FIFA Women’s World Cup title. This time, the U.S. Men’s National Team is setting records, as the squad’s opening match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup against Honduras on Tuesday, July 7, scored 986,000 viewers to become the most-watched non-FIFA Women’s World Cup soccer match in FOX Sports 1 history.
The USMNT vs. Honduras match is the ninth-most watched soccer match overall on FOX Sports 1 and the most-watched Gold Cup Group Stage match on any FOX property, beating the 2013 USA vs. Cuba contest that aired on FOX broadcast network (821,000). The match was especially strong in Adults 18-49, pulling in 558,000 viewers in that demographic.
The final match of the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2015™, in which the USA defeated Japan, 5-2, on FOX broadcast network attracted a staggering 25.4 million viewers and is the most-watched soccer match – men’s or women’s – in U.S. television history. Just 15 hours after the conclusion of the record-setting contest, FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP TODAY – THIRD STAR SPECIAL, a live, one-hour celebration of the USWNT featuring the unveiling of the three-star jerseys, drew 402,000 viewers and is the most-watched non-live event weekday afternoon telecast in FOX Sports 1 history.
