FOX Sports’ Summer of Soccer Continues With Guinness International Champions Cup
Los Angeles – Just days after the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015™ crowned the U.S. Women’s National Team its champion, and with the CONCACAF Gold Cup underway, FOX Sports’ Summer of Soccer continues with the Guinness International Champions Cup. The third annual tournament features many of the most storied and successful soccer clubs from around the world.
FOX, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and FOX Soccer Plus are home to all 23 Guinness ICC matches which runs through Wednesday, August 5. The tournament began Saturday, July 11, with Steven Gerrard’s debut with the LA Galaxy in a 2-1 win against Club America. Ten teams are participating in this summer’s tournament, highlighted by UEFA Champions League winners FC Barcelona, defending Guinness ICC champions Manchester United and three Major League Soccer franchises, including the MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy. Also competing are Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, FC Porto, Club América, Fiorentina, New York Red Bulls and San Jose Earthquakes.
FOX Sports’ Rob Stone, having recently hosted FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP™ TODAY and currently anchoring GOLD CUP MATCHDAY programs, hosts Guinness ICC studio coverage when Club América takes on Manchester United on Friday, July 17; a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 21 (Fiorentina-PSG, LA Galaxy-Barcelona); the big Manchester United-Barcelona clash on Saturday, July 25 on local FOX stations; and the two final matchups on Sunday, August 2 and Wednesday, August 5. Also hosting during the tournament are Mark Rogondino and Ross Dyer. Studio analysts include Alexi Lalas, Eric Wynalda, Brad Friedel, Stuart Holden, Warren Barton and Cobi Jones.
Calling Guinness ICC game action are JP Dellacamera, the voice of the U.S. Women’s National team during its record-setting FIFA Women’s World Cup™ championship run, along with Rogondino, Steve Cangialosi, Glenn Davis and Dan Kelly. Game analysts include Jones, Friedel, Holden, Tony Meola, Brian Dunseth and Janusz Michallik, while Keith Costigan, Kyndra de St. Aubin and Katie Witham serve as sideline reporters. Dellacamera, Friedel and Costigan team up when Manchester United and Barcelona face off Saturday, July 25 on FOX.
The Manchester United-Real Madrid Guinness ICC match last summer attracted 109,000 fans to Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, setting an attendance record for soccer in the U.S. This year’s edition of the tournament is played in several locations across the globe, including Australia, Canada and China.
